how about old brass weights  -  anyone know anything???  - I have one that is marked (stamped) in several places with various Standards/legal marks, I can see.      I picked this up - from a boot sale  -  might be very early C18, but I haven't yet made an effort to id.     Would it be worthwhile/acceptable to put this on the collectables site.??

Many thanks Anne  -  I now have to find the piece, and frankly it's so bothery hot this afternoon that it might take me a while, but I will definitely locate it.    In the meantime, and being in need of adulation and worship  -  I have now finished slaving over a hot mallet and chisel, so from the depths of greenest Surrey (U.K.) I bring you my 'Drinking Glass Cabinet Mk. 1'  -  just forget the glass it's the lovely warm colours of West African Mahogany (I think it's Okoume) that you need to see.       Just in case anyone thinks I bought the wood  -  I did in fact rescue a shed load of the stuff when there was a local shop-front being dismantled and skipped  - so I removed it from the skip.  -  it breaks my heart to see such wonderful material being thrown away.    I have enough to make a dozen of these (if I live that long) ............and the glass isn't bad either

Paul,  what a beautiful cabinet....WoW!!.....and the glasses are rather nice as well!!

I had no idea you were skilled in cabinet making....do you take commisions?....I have 500+ glass animals needing a home, and that style of cabinet would be absolutely perfect.

Unfortunately, Rosie, I have so many glassy things to do in life, plus the bookbinding, plus the gardening, plus the D.I.Y, plus being Lothario etc. that I would quite literally never get around to fullfiling any orders, and the few pieces I do make are simply gifts within the family.      I have on occasions looked at producing the odd item to sell (blanket box sort of thing) but commercially these items can be bought now so cheaply that no one would ever pay the sort of prices that I would need to charge.     It isn't the cost of the materials that is the issue, generally - I have a reclamation yard locally and can buy old floorboards etc. very cheaply, rather it's the cost of my labour which kills the bottom line.      You must have a local carpenter able to produce something similar, surely.     Don't I seem to remember that some time in the past 12 months you did acquire some new cabinet/s??
This one is in fact too shallow for the Wedgwood goblets (which have to be turned sideways so that I can close the doors ), and the Mk. 2 (already part made) will be deeper.

Only kidding Paul....as you know, I have a hubby that can make most things and my daughter's partner is a bespoke cabinet maker, so it was just that it was the highest compliment I could pay you to mention it at all. :thup:
You are right, I have just got 2 new cabinets,  but they are already overfilled.
Your glasses do look stunning in that cabinet though, and I hope you will show us the next one when it is finished.

Paul, that is beautiful and the colour is glorious.  It must also be gratifying to be able to make a bespoke piece that isn't as wide as all shelves seem to be.  I find it irritating trying to find the right shelves and often wish they were less deep.  I'm sure the next set will be perfect for your goblets.
