Hello Everybody,
I am currently trying to collate examples of work produced by Hailwood & Ackroyd, a company that was based in Morley, near Leeds, England (UK), and which began in 1927. I am not interested in their miners' lamps, which are well covered - unlike the glassware that they produced.
Apart form my own collection, there are a number of examples held at Broadfield House Glass Museum (3 of which I supplied!). Several of those are illustrated in the recently published book by Charles Hajdamach "20th Century British Glass" on page 141.
There is also a lighting panel of a Charioteer illustrated in BGBtW, and another, of an owl, on the great-glass website. These are in addition to a few other illustrations that I have found in contemporary publications.
The work can only be identified if marked. The most usual mark will be that of 'HAILWARE' and can be seen on all sorts of wares, from art glass, to lighting (including glass petrol pump heads), through to pressed glass.
There are other trade names: 'Hailopal'; 'Hailcris'; and, according to Glasmarken Lexikon, there is also, 'Haileris' (a mis-interpretation perhaps?); 'Hailglass'; 'Hailray'; and, 'Hailusco'.
If perchance you have an example, or know of one that is identifiable (other than mentioned above) please could you contact me with details of the pieces, through my email address at the 'dot com' reference below, using 'nbenson at'.
Ideally, photos, size and type of identification, including any reference numbers. These can be registration marks, or purely factory marks in my experience. Oh, it would be particularly good to know if any of this is outside the UK.
Many thanks to all, Nigel
