Günther Hofmann / Gralglas One-offs
« on: September 18, 2011, 02:45:54 PM »
Just a bit show and tell... :) Required these pieces from the private possession of
Günther Hofmann, who´s the last living of the Gralglas designers. I was able to
contact him via his daughter recently, who sold some of his pieces on ebay...

#1 is large cut glass vase made in Schwäbisch Gmünd Glasfachschule from a
Josephinenhütte blank. It´s ca. 38cm tall.
#2 is an organic shaped amethyst cased clear bowl with an elegantly curved rim
- ca. 23 x 21 cm wide. It was a test piece, which never went into serial production.

#3 is a lighter made in the same technique as the Wiedmann candleholders - for
comparison see the one in my album here.
This piece was made uniquely on request for Mr. Hofmann.
#4 is a test piece combining the Corona technique with frit decoration. I´m not 100% sure
wether it´s a one-off really. At least the technique was used in serial production, but I´m not
sure if it was made in this shape...

#5 and last is enamel painting on a Gralglas blank. Mr. Hofmann told me on the
phone: ´Well, we were young then...´  ;)

Hope you´ll enjoy!  :D

Dirk, finally a bit of show-and-tell!!! I seriously thought I would grow old and senile before ever seeing what you promised to show.  ;D :kissy:

Truly fantastic additions to your collection... and I really can't imagine them going to a more appreciative home. CONGRATULATIONS!

By the way, my absolute favourite is the "When we were young" bowl. Tee hee...

Sorry it took so long, Anik. But - honestly - since my time in Czech Republic this
is the second (whole) day I´ve spent @home...  :P
Came back from Bremen on a Sunday evening and been away on a construction
job since then - spending the last two weekends at my parents´ for helping with
a charity thing... My neighbours in the house have started to call me ´the ghost
from the attic´... :24:
However - many thanks for your kind words!  :kissy:

Thank you from me too,
I love the lighter, and the "young person's" bowl, the first piece is absolutely fascinating - I love the sculptural effect in the middle...

Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

So do I, Sue. It´s a bit hard to capture in the photographs, but it looks quite
impressing in the flesh.  :)

Dirk, wow, phantastic pieces!! Thanks for showing!
I especially like the blue Corona vase and the lighter -- simply gorgeous.

I hope that I am able to find a Gralglas art glass piece too, one day...

Michael
