Help With Age & Possible Maker Of Mushroom Paperweight? ID = probable AVEM
KevinH:
Purists would say that "Piedouche" (the French word for pedestal) should be used only for weights where the supporting foot and stem are formed from stave canes or filgree (filigrana). Otherwise it would simply be a "pedestal weight".
At least, that's what Paul Dunlop says in his book, The Dictionary of Glass Paperweights, an illustrated primer.

Next question. Any value to this? An estimate?
alexander:
I'd say this item is a mushroom rather than piedouche, a piedouche is a normal shaped weight atop a stem that widens at the top in the style described by KevH.
This looks like it was made to resemble a mushroom. Not a bad piece at all.
As to value - hard to say and your mileage may wary - not a huge amount.
KevinH:

Hi jenndk. We do not usually discuss values on this board, but I feel alexander is right to say not a huge amount.
