Ambe/.silver and green vase
« on: September 25, 2011, 04:23:12 AM »
Hi all

I picked up this amazing little vase the other day and was swayed as it is numbered 103 and a series of three initials I cannot read or photograph at all.  I was hoping someone would be able to tell me what it is from just looking at it.

When you view it with no light shining through it is green and silver, but when any light is shone through the silver turns to amber.  It is 17cm tall and 8cm across the top with a polished pontil, no wear but much too nice to be Chinese. It also feels "ridged" between the green and other coloured parts.

Also - could anyone tell me what it is they used to get the silver/amber thing going?

Many thanks

HI Poppy
in order to help, if we can, I think we need to see a close up of the signature on the base please?
It may just be me but your photos are not blowing up very well, so the base sig is not visible.

And i'd like to see a pic with the light hitting the surface, rather than coming through the piece.
I can't tell if it might or might not be a short-lived range from Mdina - although the foot's a peculiar feature if it is.

Agree completely about the bounced light of the signature.  To illustrate how much better these two photos are of the same vase base and the clarity is quite different.  The bounce takes out the pattern factor that a direcrt photo has.
