flower stand - courtesy of Silber & Fleming
« on: September 30, 2011, 04:03:21 PM »
almost caught me out  -  just about to post as an attractive comporte/desert dish of some sort, but why the central hole which runs down through the stem and creating a completely hollow foot?   -   when I happened to be looking through Silber & Fleming, and realilzed I had only half of what I was supposed to have.    So, it would seem to be the lower half of a flower stand, with attractive 'egg and dart' wheel cut decoration around the top half of the bowl  - anyone know if this particular type of decoration was especially British??              Similar pieces are shown in the aforesaid book on pages 136 and 137, but with different decoration, but of course, if it's really something else, please do let me know.     I don't recall seeing one of these before, so maybe not too many survived from what I assume would be somewhere around the third quarter of the C19.     Height is about 5.25"/135mm.          Does anyone have the top half please :)
P.S.   What date span does Silber & Fleming cover, generally  -  might it be more the second half of the Victorian period??
