Topic: Jan Schmid 'basketweave' vase Libochovice 3213

I haven't seen this on the board, so for the purpose of reference:

A 20cm tall vase with what I would call a basketweave design, by Jan Schmid, Libochovice pattern number 3213.

The piece was made by a three part mould and has 18 'columns' going around, 11 'rows' going down. The base does not have the typical birdbath we see in other Sklo Union pieces as it's much more shallow.  It weighs 1090g.

This vase can be seen in the 1961/7 CGR , as well as, the 1962/6 CGR.

Excellent, but I am puzzled as to why why the bird bath base is considered typical - as in the large collection I handled I would not have regarded it as 'typical' just one style of finish amongst many others. Perhaps before much was known the few pieces recognised were those with bird-bath base? Including some that turned out not to be Czech at all - the danger of generalisation.

You are absolutely right, Frank.  My apologies for propagating a misconception.  I've taken a look at some of my Czech pressed glass, and indeed the bases come in a variety of finishes...

I'll blame my faux pas on a (hopefully) temporary brain dis/mal/non-function. :hi:
