Hi,

Sorry mods if this doesn't belong here.....

I've recently acquired this unusual cased art glass bowl which is limeish-green in clear and has an applied knobbly texture to the underside. In terms of the technique used, it reminds me of the Skrdlovice Galaxy range but I've no idea if its by Skrdlovice or even Czech for that matter. Can someone help please?

Thanks, Charlene

Hi Charlene,
I don't recognise the pattern as Skrdlovice, though I see what you mean about "Galaxy" style rolled in the gather technique.... The colour looks unusual too, though it looks a quality piece of glass.. I know that some Murano houses used this technique in the 1960's. I think David (Langhaugh) may have a catalogue demonstrating this fact... but this colour and shape is not known to me...

Interesting piece closer to the "Galaxy" style than the Murano pieces that use the same technique. I'll attach a "Galaxy" vase I have that looks quite similar yours, especially around the base. However, on looking at the colour and general shape of the piece I wouldn't say Skrdlovice, and I feel very safe in saying that now that Robert has also said it.

It is a well used Murano technique. Fratelli Toso used it to make their overshot pieces and it was also used much earlier.  I've also seen it used in other places, including American Studio glass. That said, I haven't a clue who made your piece, but I'd keep looking as it looks like a nice piece of glass. It took me over two years to identify my "Galaxy" bowl, btw.

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for your contributions - David, I love your Galaxy Bowl, it almost looks edible, reminiscent of cola flavoured slush puppy from childhood ;)
With regards to my bowl, I will carry on hunting and be sure to update this thread with any progress made.

All the best, Charlene :)

P.S. If anyone has any other inklings then please post your thoughts!

Bumpety bump  :X: hoping someone can help further with this unidentified piece...

P.S. David, do you think perhaps I should I submit this ID request into the Murano section instead or request it be moved?? Appreciate your time if you get chance to reply.. cheers

Took a little bit of time to respond here a I've been on holiday.  I think it's OK is this area. Murano should be for pieces that we know are Murano. This might be but let's wait and see. It is a very unusual piece.
