Art Deco Cherub stand.
« on: November 01, 2011, 02:10:53 PM »
Hi everyone,
I am well aware that this subject has been given quite a bit of Board airtime in the past but I was wondering if any new information had come to light with regard to the creators of this lovely piece of Art Deco glass. I recently listed the piece probably wrongly suggesting the maker might have been Walther and Sohne for which I have rightly received some grief. I have since ammended the listing. The stand carries the registration numbers 756470. The numbers can be traced back to James Lang & Co with an approximate registration date of July 1930. I know that James Lang were known as being importers of glass etc from the continent but I have no more knowledge than that. Please check out the photo's I have added. I will and so will others be very interested in the replies received to this topic.
Thanks,
Bryn

Do a board search for cherub and you should find the information you need. I didn't think the registrant of the number was known, but the maker of the bowl is almost certainly Schweig, Müller & Co.

Hi Christine,
Many Thanks for your reply. The stand with the bowl looks quite stunning especially in uranium green. The bowl looks much smaller than I would have expected but certainly looks right.
I think I may have seen the earlier posts using the Cherub link. I suppose you would usually assume that the maker of the bowl would also have created the stand.
I don't suppose there was also a registration mark on the bowl Christine? That would, of course, assume that Lang imported that piece too.
Thanks again,
Bryn

I meant the maker of the base (NOT THE BOWL) is almost certainly Schweig, Müller & Co. I have drawn conclusions about my bowl; it just matches too well. I do have a roses bowl (somewhere) that is Schweig, Müller & Co. to fit on the top of the cherubs that is wider, but the cherubs and the cherry bowl are doing sterling work holding my fruit.

Thanks Christine, :hiclp:
I think it should be safe to add this new info to my Cherub listing on Ebay now.

Cant remember where I saw the reference but I do know it came with a choice of bowls, a rather plain one or one with matching roses around the rim that Christine has.

Hi there

I believe there are 2 different makers on this cherub base. Yours looked like the Czech? version, less detail compare to the German made ones.

Cheers
Brenton
