Thanks, Adair and Javier.  The fact that they were moulded could account for what looks like the corroso effect.

Javier, for future reference, is it clear when you see the actual piece that it's not corroso?

Opaline and opalescent are quite different things, are they not?

Opalescent glass has "fire" - when you look through it with light behind, you see all the colours of a pale sunset - reds, yellows and cloudy blues.

Is opaline glass not just opaque white?

Sue, that is such a good question and I've never been able to find consistent answers. I am never sure if I am using the right word -- opal, opaline, opalescent. The French and Italians refer to the glass with amber fire as opaline or opalino (e.g., Veritable Opaline). But others call that opalescent. I've read some places that opalescent is the opaline glass that has a pearlescent quality. But other places I have read what you mentioned.

So I have always been confused.

This is a great forum. I'm really glad I found you all.
I found this on ebay.. really looks like my bowl with the exception of the opalescent part.

Sorry for being flippant - but that looks more like a bed-pan than your ear shaped bowl!  :wsh:

I think that is definitely opalescent from the way it's been photographed but I couldn't find anything on the Blenko site that matched  :-\

That link is definately the same make as yours Lilly, except you have the opaline fire in yours, and a very nice piece it is as well.  Have you double checked the measurements with your piece?  As it is moulded rather than hand worked,  it should be pretty much the same.  So in that case Blenko seems the right maker.
BTW for an eBay link you only need to copy as far as the ?  but not include it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blenko-Art-Glass-Ashtray-Dish-Bowl-White-VERY-NICE-/380264036513
Then it goes blue and underlines itself and us poor old lazy bones only have to click on the link instead of copying and pasting it!  ;)

Measurements are close.. I know some people don't measure exactly and i don't either..
Mine is 8 1/2 at the widest  and 5 3/8 across the middle..
It is 2" tall and fluctuates about 1/4" or so..
The shape looks identical to me from the pics..

Thanks for the instruction on posting links..

Now off to learn more about the difference in opaline  and opalescent..
thanks a million!!!!

If you get a definative answer to: 'Now off to learn more about the difference in opaline  and opalescent..', please let us all know.
I rate yours as Opaline (or Opalino).....it's lovely anyway.

Would all Blenko have the Blenko stamp? I never trust eBay for attributions. I didn't see this form in any of the Blenko catalogs I checked, but know it could be out there somewhere.
