Cloud glass plinth - Colour? Maker? ID = Davidson No. 1 plinth (4")

(1/3) > >>

Anne E.B.:
I'm not too sure what this could actually be - Davidson's purple/amethyst or Walther violet or pink? I checked Chris & Val's cloud glass site where I spotted these possibilities.   It has a matt finish - not polished, so does that mean its not Davidson?  There are no markings to be seen.  Its quite large - but again I'm a little confused as to how to actually measure these things.  Are they measured across their widest part, or just across the recess?  This one has a 4" diam. recess, and 6" at its widest.

I haven't come across one this colour before so its completely thrown me. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks as always :P

Adam:
It looks vaguely Davidson to me, but either Bernard or Chris/Val will know.  All I can say definitely is that the acid etched finish does NOT exclude Davidson - a great deal of their stuff was so treated.

Hi,
It is a Davidson purple cloud glass plinth. Davidson did make some items of cloud glass with an all matt finish. We have a 1910MD in purple cloud which is all matt except for the flower dome and it looks stunning!

Regards

Chris

Anne, IMHO the oval shape would perhaps only fit to Walther's 'Hermann' Brotkorb "bread 'basket'" (more an oval bowl) - the only one I can see that was made in Oralit too

and: I can see no Oralit plinth in Walther catalogues, which of course does mean nothing, they perhaps could have made them anyway ...

no idea of measurements of Hermann, I'm afraid - but about 4" equal to nearly/abt. 11 cms? could fit, but despite this Hermann bowl, I do not know any Walther centrepiece with oval shaped base, requesting a plinth
