Glass/Crystal swallow ashtray - Marked Bayer Cristal?

Unsure if this ashtray is glass or crystal, it measures 18cm across and 7cm at its highest point. Etched circle to the base with "BAYER" and  "CRISTAL" (with an i) both around a shield.
I have done a search but found nothing so far.

possibly Bayel Crystal rather than Bayer?
