Bumps, blocks, and Nipples.....Ashtray ??
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:30:36 AM »
Hi (me waving smilie):

I found this.  Believe it to be an ashtray -- and thinking it must be Czech.  It has nipples/bumps around the sides, and some block type of pattern also.  It is:

~ 6 inches wide
~ 2.75 inches tall
~ Pressed Glass, as can see 4 quarter seams
~ Good wear on the bottom.

Any idea on the age, or the maker on this one?  I think it is Czech (Sklo Union) IMHO, but I have not found anything to match yet.  Just a Gut feeling.

Thanks as always.... :-*

Spot on Rose, I think it is a design by Frantisek Peceny but I have only seen it as a vase before. Will see what other info I can find.

John

That was quick..... http://sklo-union-glass.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/20211_vase_4dc17ce2d8ac9.jpg

From the Glassexport 1983 catalogue, made at Hermonova hut, this shape pattern no 20257. Also made as a bowl in other sizes, a vase in three sizes, candlesticks, match holder and two sizes of covered pot.

Very nice, Rose... You can also see the whole set in the 1974/5 edition of the Czechoslovak Glass Review:  https://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/Glasrevue19745?authkey=Gv1sRgCMbU2NLb3emcdQ#5526009160798758402

Thank you glassobsessed and Anik for your replies   :-*

Maybe it is not an ashtray -- but a small bowl (I guess).  I just assumed it might be an ashtray??

My gut did tell me it might be Sklo Union/Czech -- but was not sure of the maker, or the age.  So is it 1974/75 for age, or from 1983??  for age??

So Thanks for the fast answers and replies for the Confirmation here!! You folks are amazing!!

 ;)

It's described as an ashtray in the CGR, but I'd use it as a candy dish. :)  Peceny designed the set in 1970, so a little earlier than you thought.

Thank you so much!!  Now I know it is an ashtray!!  Thanks for the date also, as I have already *attached* a little label to this item so its history can stay with it.  I try to do that with everything here......LOL.

I like to give the history back with the item (via a sticky note) as it no longer "...just a piece of glass here.......it has a name/maker/and age...".  Thanks again!!
