First of all, let me apologise for the photos - I just can't seem to get good pics of this.

It is a (I'm not sure of correct terminology) wall light shade (sconce?) in very heavy glass, pressed I assume.  There is a grapes and vine design running up the middle panel.  It is frosted, but the pinkish colouring seems to be in the frosting or a coating, as the glass is clear where there are chips.

It's very dirty, but it's an 'ingrained' dirt - I can't wash it off.  Is this possible - maybe from gas light fumes?  I really don't know, but I'd like to be able to clean it up if I could.

There are two holes, one at the top and another at the bottom.  The bottom one I can understand as I assume a wire or even  gas pipe would have gone through here.  But the one at the top?

Also, is it missing a frame or a base, or is this the whole thing?  I would really like to use it, but have no idea how to fix it to a wall (and thinking about it now - why have a hole for wiring/piping when that would surely have come straight through the wall into the back of this?

Dimensions are 91/2" x 6" x 3".

Finally - any idea as to date/maker etc?

Sorry - so many questions!
Nancy
