Dartington Regency or Victoria Candle holder
« on: April 13, 2012, 09:40:42 PM »
Looking at Decanter Man's website my candle holder could be either Regency or Victoria as it shares similarities with both looking at the stem. It appears to me that the cup part of the glasses quoted are what makes the difference.

Crystal or glass? I believe gold label means 1st quality, red 2nd. Correct?

Without the cover I have no idea how you can tell or even if there is a difference. I judged mine by the total height: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/DartingtonGlass#5730196062504467234

And another in ripple: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/DartingtonGlass#5730196069050640226

By the time these were made all of Dartington's output had a high lead content.

Oh dear. I didn't realise there was a bit missing. OK, judging by your photos, mine is the same as the Victoria stand. The stem is stepped and on the Regency one it isn't.  A bang-on profile view would show differences for sure.

Bit of a disappointment as I bought them to sell, Being Dartington I thought they'd be easy enough to ID and move on.

Looking at some photos yours must be from one of the Victoria candlelamps. The Regency version is designed for a tall candlestick, the stem is hollow to hold a tall thin stick instead of solid (yours looks solid).
