Vase with trailed overlaid colour & signed
« on: May 03, 2012, 02:52:39 PM »
Hello Everyone! I need a little help with an ID. I found this, what I have always thought of as a vase, buried in the sand, underwater, in a lake in Florida about 20 years ago. Think it is blown glass, it is signed on the bottom but I can't associate it with anyone. I will attach photos. Thank you!

What do you think it says - is it Cyrillic? It seems to start with a 3 (z)... - even if the piece looks Mexican.

Hello and welcome to the board. :)  A couple of wee pointers to help you along: can you make your topic titles a bit more descriptive to catch people's eyes. This is a busy board and many people have limited time, so they skim down for their areas of interest. If you describe your piece you usually get better results that just a generic help or puzzled or similar type title. I'll go tweak yours for you when I've posted this reply.  2nd point - we could do with a clearer image of the sig please. Your camera is focusing on the table below it which is nice and sharp, but this means the sig is fuzzy. If you have a macro setting on your camera set it to that and then stand about a foot away from the top of the vase. If your macro also zooms you can stand back a bit more and zoom in and this usually gives better results. Have another go and see what happens. Meanwhile, let's hope someone can help with your mystery vase - fancy it being fished out of a lake. :)
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Hi and welcome  :)
Love your vase - I like the shape and the blue over the green effect, very attractive.  I hope the clearer signature will help decipher who may have made it or country or origin.

Anne, thank you very much for the guidance. Can you tell this is my first time ever doing this? HaHa
As per your note, and the instruction book for my camera, low and behold...it does indeed have a macro setting. I am going to try attaching a better picture here. The name definately starts with an H,
'Ha_ppi_v' or 'Haffi_v', I can't make out if they are supposed to be p's or f's and that last letter could be an n.

It's a bit clearer It looks like Harry to me, but the image of the sig is still too blurred - I'm sorry - the camera seems to have focussed on the denim background which is wonderfully clear.
Do keep trying as a clear pic of the sig will help I hope :)

It looks like it could be Harris to me. There are several American art glass people named Harris, so I thought I would put the name on the table. (Really, the signature looks like it could be any H name.)
