Murano Glass signed vase, please help to id !
« on: May 20, 2012, 12:02:27 AM »
Hi!

I bought this murano vase in a succession sale. It is about 5 inches tall. There is a signature under the vase but I cannot read it. Do you know who made it (and signed it?)

Thanks a lot for your help

Does it have a Murano sticker? The style of the vase and the way it is signed is not typical for Murano glass. Your vase reminds me more of American glass. The signature is certainly hard to read, so I can see why you are having trouble.

It doesn't have Murano sticker. I wasn't sure about that. I don't know about American glass. I look on the web and the composition looks similar. Thanks !
The writing is really not clear. I hope someone already saw it.

Can you get a closer pic (or crop the another pic) so that it is closer?  But still big?  Try taking some different photos is a light source and finding the best reflection that shows off the signature.  Does your camera have a close-up lens (the flower button) on it.

Need a good picture to try to figure it out....and take several shots till you find which angle/light source give a good pic.

Never say never....we still might be able to figure it out

My impression is that is definitely a small art glass maker.  The position of the signature suggests it is probably not from the USA - they tend to sign at the side of the base.  Where do you live?  That may also give us a clue.

The style is very like a crude attempt at pulled feather - more properly a combed effect.  That is quite common in American studios of this vintage.  I don't recognise it as an Australian maker.

dated 76? yes?
your signature is reflecting I think and causing a kind of 'shadow' which makes it hard to read.
I thought it read George from a distance until I saw it enlarge.
And yes, country you bought it in would be very helpful please.
thanks
m

Yes it is dated 1976. I'm from Quebec, Canada.

You can try rubbing a bit of talcum powder in the signature. That will eliminate the reflection of light on the glass.
