« on: June 04, 2012, 07:06:07 PM »
Hi, unable to get an I/D for these 2 green ash tray bowls. 5.750 inches dia, 2 inches tall and weighs 1.053 each approx. the area where it sits is flat and polished with ware marks an has a deep polished out pontil mark.
I was thinking Murano but not sure.
Thank you
Malcolm

There is a similar Orrefors design but they are usually marked - though not always and I have only ever seen them in pale blue glass.

Here is an example: http://www.rubylane.com/item/314806-Or-Bl-Bowl/Orrefors-Pale-Blue-Signed-Scandinavian

It looks like yours has six 'lobes' and the Orrefors has five, I can check as my father has one of the Orrefors bowls.

Not quite true, John, you've seen my pale amethyst one.  :-*
Christine has mine right now, so I can't count the lobes. It is marked.

However, as we're discussing these, there was a lot of disagreement about how mine was constructed (there was a large group of us, in B'ham, at lunch time).
Most folk think mine is cased. At first loooking one might assume that, but I am of the very firm opinion that it is not - that all the different shades of colour which appear are due entirely to different thicknesses of the glass - it is all one colour.

Does anybody know for sure? (I'm sure, just nobody else was!)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

I had forgotten your pale amethyst one Sue, how ungallant!

Ellis Bergh designed some bits and bobs for Kosta which where 'lobed' - just a shot in the dark.

Erickson made 6 lobed cigar ashtrays that are Orrefors look-a-likes. #660 original 1957 ad says 6" diameter, hand formed ribbed base & formed cigar rests, emerald green, smoke or grape available. Problem is when I looked at yours orginally (last week maybe?) the color looked too dark for Erickson Emerald so I never mentioned it. Ken
