Orrefors Expo Bottle
« on: June 13, 2012, 01:01:18 PM »
I found this bottle at an antique mall.  I've not seen an Orrefors piece marked with "expo".  What does that mean?  It has the letter "T" in the middle which I think is Orrefors code for Lars Hellsten, though I'm not positive.  Can anyone tell me more about these Expo pieces and possibly who made this piece?  Thanks so much.

The only thing I can offer is under this URL:
http://www.modernistglass.com/glasspieces/view/2636/signed-1959-orrefors-expo-vase--landberg-offcentre-in-rare-size

While this is probably not relevant I once had a mystery Kosta Vicke Lindstrand LS 625 vase that took four years to find any info on since 625 did not appear on any factory records. Turned out that it was made for a London manufacturers glass exposition in 1958.  Maybe thats where your "Expo" line fits in but thats just my thought. Ken

Thanks, Ken.  I actually saw went to that link investigating expo pieces.  I'm wondering if the "expo" means unique.

Going by that thread, I'm going to assume that this is #402 in a series and it was made in 1979....I guess.  Hopefully someone will come along and clarify and potentially know who made it.  Thanks for your responses!

You're right about the 1979 and Lars Hellsten. Between 1971 and 1980 Hellsten designed a little more that 400 Expo models, which seemed to be produced in runs of various sizes, none very large. Expo was intended to be "Art Glass."

I hope this helps.

Who made it? The glassworkers at Orrefors made it, a glassblower blew it, maybe the same or maybe another made the stopper. Someone else in the finishing workshop fitted the stopper to the bottle and perhaps a fourth person ground and polished the base. Then it would have been engraved.
