can anyone help a novice? Chance Glass anniversary plate
« on: June 18, 2012, 11:07:36 PM »
i have been searching for ages for a 45th wedding anniversary plate.i have done some searching and found that Chance Glass created similar glass wedding plates but cannot find a 45th wedding anniersary plate.my nan and now late grandad was married for over 50 years and have what look like Chance glass plates for all the main wedding anniversaries since their 20th wedding anniversary(20th,25th,30th,35th,40th and soon to have 50th) all accept their 45th wedding anniversary. i would love to get hold of one as a gift for my nan and was wondering if anyone knows where i could get one?

Welcome to the Board,

Since you are looking specifically for Chance glass, I have amended the title of your thread and will now move it to the British & Irish Glass forum. We have one or two members with good knowledge of Chance items - including the author of a book on the subject.

Welcome to the board. I have a 50th anniversary one, but I've not seen a 45th anniversary.

Hi and welcome.

To the best of my knowledge neither Chance nor Fiesta Glass (who took over production in 1981) made a 45th anniversary plate. In fact, I'm fairly certain a 35th was never made, so I'm not sure where that one came from unless they produced a short run.

Fiesta Glass are almost certainly the makers as they started introducing these plates with ever more elaborate decoration, and it probably comes from its Jewel Glass range. This range commonly had 25th, 40th and 50th as the usual culprits, according to the scans I made of the promotional cards.

BUT, if you do find a 45th, I would be interested to learn of it!

You can get anything printed nowadays cups, Plates etc. A little bit of work on photoshop maybe. I have no idea if this would work but worth investigating as it sounds like it would make your Nan happy and thats worth it. : )

That is a beautiful idea, Pete!
However, I'll keep my eyes peeled too. I do see lots of anniversary plates around in charity shops.

Other slumped glass manufacturers are available...

There is a general Wedding Anniversary one too, which could be adapted with the addition of suitable numbers?
