Topic: Unusual C20th decanter

I'm sure I've seen one like this somewhere...but not in any books of mine. I'm not even sure of its origin or date, early to mid C20th I'd guess. The  stopper could be art deco or more modern. The decoration is engraved in a more classical pattern. I flushed the inside with water as it is water damaged inside. (Bought it outside in the rain and didn't notice) I thought it had a brushed steel collar but I'm not at all sure its not silver. It is 25cm to the top of the stopper.
Any ideas welcome. I really like it but am unsure whether it is worth getting repaired.

sorry, can't help with an id.........but it may be of interest to know the extent of wear and whether it has a ground/polished pontil depression, or a base as from a mould.         Try a little CIF or other very mild abrasive on your handkerchief and see if the result goes black.        When you say repaired, assume you mean removal of the cloudyness - you could probably do this yourself with copper balls/metal polish/ cerium oxide and patience

It looks a little like a Baccarat shape and design that i sold last year , but not a very good picture so dont get excited .

Ive had no luck with the removal of cloudiness before, perhaps lack of patience. I've got all those ingredients you menioned, do i use both cerium oxide and metal polish in combination with the copper balls?
There is a lot of wear to the base and the pontil seems to have been fire-polished.

if Baccarat, then the back stamp should be circular, containing a wine glass, decanter and tumbler, although due to the wear you mention, might be feint and difficult to see, possibly, try using a lens.          I'm unsure about the fire polished pontil though.         If you rub the collar with your metal polish you should know instantly whether or not it's silver (but could be plated) - if silver then should be hallmarked  -  but assume no marks.  Don't now what it might show if it is French.

I've checked the top, it is silver but there is no mark. No marks on the glass either. I've looked at the similar Baccarat pieces..this doesn't seem to be near the quality of the pieces I've looked at.

All I can say is that it doesn't have a pontil mark
And the fact that the "silver" is unmarked is also worrying. It may mean it's Britannia metal or somesuch
