pictures added - any help much appreciated on age or country or both  :)     It has an integral hollow foot in a slightly curved kind of bun shaped way.  The rim is fire polished.  Lots of wear to the base.  Measures 12.5cm tall with 6.5cm across the cup diameter.
Thanks for looking  :)

The shape reminds me of one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190645606660?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649, ie the cup on top of a neck. My *impression* is that yours is 50's-ish Scandinavian.

Thanks Julie  :)  I have been veering between possibly German and possibly Finnish... and come down on the side of possibly Finnish because I've only seen this colour on Nuutarjarvi Notjo pieces, which ties in with your thoughts of Scandinavian.  I'll keep looking.
