Clear large glass vase
« on: July 01, 2012, 04:30:19 PM »
Hi,

Please can anyone let me know who made / designed this vase?

It measures 28 cms tall.  This is a clear heavey glass vase tappering form.  It is circular in form but it is made up of 6 pinched sides which give a twisting / wavey effect to the vase as the glass goes up.  The glass is at least 12 mm thick at the top and the base has wear with a ground and polished pontil.

Thank you.

J

I'm not certain, but the style looks very French to me. Perhaps Sevres?

I have a similar clear vase that I have identified as Hineri from Japan.  I have been looking at Thick walled Japanese pieces recently and most have a very distinctive feature compared to Czech or Murano pieces.  In almost all I have had definite identification of the bumps are on clearly defined rows evenly spaced up from the base.  I include three of my collection.

I therefore suspect yours is Japanese as well.  If it is it will be hard to deduce the maker in my experience.

Ross

PS>   I suspect the third vase is a Kamei as well but can't prove it just yet.  The bumps are the same shape I feel.
I bamle all snileplg eorrrs on the Cpomuter Kyes.  They confuse my fingers !!!
