Bulbous iridescent wavy rim vase Loetz ??
« on: July 02, 2012, 05:21:34 PM »
Hi, i am unsure as to who manufactured  this Bulbous green iridescent wavy rim vase. It does have similar patternation to some  Loetz patterns but really not sure. It has a polished concave pontil mark and is 7.50 inches tall with a dia of 5.75 inches and wear marks to base area. It does have some odd bits of frit within the body of the glass . Any help with era and maker would be great.

Regards
Malcolm

Does look like one of the 'oil spot' variations, have you looked on Craigs Kralik glass site?

Hi thanks for the link Keith,  it looks like it could be one of the Loetz Oceanik designs ? Does anyone know when they were made. ?
and do Loetz pieces have polished out pontil marks as i have not seen or handled any.?
Many thanks to all
Malc

This is an example of Oceanik, and would have been produced 1900-1905. Contrary to some popular internet myths, Loetz vases are found with and without pontils, although if found with a pontil they are generally well worked and polished. Oceank is a decor with a direct relationship to Wellenoptisch. Oceanic has a different surface treatment, but same molded surface pattern.

Hope this helps.
