Aubergine goofus pitcher jugs?
« on: March 30, 2013, 11:25:39 AM »
can anyone help identify these pitcher jugs.  They are approx. 11.4cm in height, thickness 0.4cm.  They look as if they have been made in two parts.   Two protruding lines run from the top to the bottom and are on opposite sides of the pitchers.  from what I can see, the pitchers looks as if the method applied during the making was by pressing the glass into some mold by using a plunger whislt the glass was in a molten state. This would also include the base.   Meaning that the bowls itself, was made in three sections.    I have no idea of the maker and period these would of been made.  At a guess and it is only a guess,  I would say they are bohemian.  The technique was first carried out in America, were soon other companies in other countries copied the same applied method.  I'm currently finding it difficult to put an age to these due to the fact that the method in the making is currently still used today.  I don't think they are of any high quality, but must admit, they do look lovely on display.   Any help is appreciated.

They are not goofus - that is a form of decorating usually involving a lot of gold. They are not pressed - they are blow moulded. It is the mould that is in two pieces not the glass. The handle is applied separately and the lip is formed by hand
