That would likely be why my specialty area of study has shifted to Welz...  :-)  Plus, I find it to be infinitely more fascinating actually..... 

Loetz is well documented and there are line drawings and books galore. I would rather study something that has not really been figured out to a great degree.... 

To me at least, studying Welz is more fun....., a bigger challenge with a more satisfying reward...

But that is just me.....

And why I ended up with Mdina...  practically nobody else was interested in it when I started.
I do agree, though - it's good to get your teeth into something "as yet unexplored"!
The excitement of working out the MGD connection and what that was, was just thrilling.

Thanks to you both for the nice comments and advice. I think I got really lucky here from what I see on the auction sites. I can't afford to chase these prices either:-) my little humppila vases over her cost me 10-25 euro and that's fine. It's a bit if an antiques roadshow moment to be honest, but now I am definitely hooked on glass collecting:-) Roy

You obviously have a good "eye" for quality and the courage of your convictions, as you bought this Loetz on the grounds of its beauty alone.
I hope we will be seeing you here a lot more in the future.

I think this bargain will take some beating, but as they say the fun is often in the chase and I am sure there are many other lovely glass collectables out there!

Your vase is a lovely find very pretty.

Being able to hold and look at the glass is a part of learning about glass though isn't it (referring to Sue and Craig's conversation)?

I can't afford Loetz either, but I do have a 'small collection' now of about 5/6 pieces I've found that haven't necessarily cost the earth.  And if I did find one out and about that was unrecognised, I might recognise it now - but those finds are quite few and far between really. 

To me it does make a real difference in desirability, being able to hold and weigh the glass in your hand.  I'm always interested when I see pics, of how thick the rim is, how thick the base is and how much the piece weighs, because then at least in my mind I can form a view of the piece even if I can't hold it.  I'm generally surprised, when I do manage to buy something a bit 'special', at what it actually looks and feels like when it arrives.
By contrast, occasionally I have also been very disappointed in some items  - I've built them up in my mind to be something really special and something I desire and then they arrive (or I see them at a fair or market) and realise I don't want them after all
