Hi Ian

My bid was based on the assumption that it was a run-of-the-mill antique Baccarat macedoine.

If I am wrong I will let you know when they arrive. ;D

Considering they asked me to repeat my "in case no one is alive" bid of £750 then yours must of made them explode!

nice weights, and they seem to of updated their description as they didn't have a clue there were 2 baccarat mushrooms amongst them :)

Hi Ian.

By the time I spoke to them to try and get a telephone line they must have known something was up, as all the telephone lines were booked, and despite telling them the kind of figure I might go to, they could not generate an additional one.  As you say, nice weights - but one is heavily damaged (the Clichy with a centre rose), whereas another is quite special!

Wasn't their original estimate £20-£40?  :o
I didn't bid as I knew they would go for more than I had available currently. Very nice buy Alan well done.

Did anyone see what lot 140 the signed Saint Louis went for at Tennants' Saturday sale?

Nick

I can't say I've seen the red mushroom before.  Believe there is damage on most of them, but mostly just scratches.  Still great weights!

Hi Nick / Ian

Red torsade Baccarat mushrooms are uncommon.  Any Baccarat mushroom where the tuft is enclosed in a ring of white canes is quite rare. A red torsade and a ring of white canes? A bit like Hen's teeth...

Hi Alan
Thanks but that was P & P's query but I was wondering the same.

Hi Nick.

I tried to bid on the Tennant's lot, but they just would not answer their telephone! That said, the Saint-Louis had a nasty chip on top, and a huge lump of black grot from manufacture on the side of the canes, so I would not have paid the price it went for (£700 hammer, I think).
