Uranium Jugendstil bowl with epns rim (signed S & B)
« on: May 13, 2013, 10:46:46 AM »
Hi,
I purchased this nice large bowl at an Antiques fair in Builth Wells last week. I recognised the pattern as being the same as on a small bowl (no epns) I'd purchased and since sold a few years back. It glows brightly under black light and the effect is really stunning as the pattern really stands out from the glowing green colour. Measures 8" diameter by 5" tall. Could it be French?
Many Thanks,
Bryn

Any luck?
Having found 2 pieces in this design I really expected this to be easy. The small glass in this design that I sold a couple of years back on Fleabay sold for just under £50 as I recall.

Very nice piece,I've only seen this type in orange or yellow which I believe to be Bohemian in general, difficult to put a name to.The metal rims may have come from elsewhere as some silver rims on Bohemian pieces have English hallmarks,IMHO,still a great find, ;D ;D

Hi Keith,
Thanks, I will have to get a photo of it under black light. Actually I might still have one of the earlier piece which will show of the effect nicely. I will try and get it on here later today. I'm off out early this morning so won't have time until around 4pm gmt. The rim epns makers mark dates it to the 1930's and to the Birmingham assay office.
Cheers,
Bryn ;D

Stuart did some similar patterns,20th Century British Glass,page120-1,although this does not look like any Stuart pieces I've seen but you never know, ;D ;D

Hi Keith,
Here is the old photo as promised. A bit out of focus but it does show the effect I think.
