ID Help/Info on large Mercury Glass Sculpture?
« on: May 21, 2013, 10:41:28 PM »
Bought this because I had never seen anything like it. Is large at 16 x 16 inches and heavy..11.5 lbs. Silver interior glass is cased in a thick 1/2 inches or more clear glass and has pinches/pulls on top and sides. Has a whole in the base...do not know if was hand blown or not. It looked kinda rough but after initial cleaning looks really nice. Was told was old...but has a modern design? Anyway thought it was cool. Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated. Thnx for looking.

I can't help with attribution but I like it. Over five KG is huge. It looks like a mini Anish Kapoor sculpture. A really interesting thing. The technique was popular at the turn of the century but this shape looks more 1960's, 1970's to present. I can see why attribution is a bit tricky. I hope someone has some recollection of this kind of piece- it would be hard to forget seeing it really... Good luck!
