Help with glass pattern
« on: June 24, 2013, 01:58:39 AM »
Hi all,
I hope someone can help me. I am trying to identify this glassware pattern. I apologize for the quality of the photo. I was having a hard time getting the pattern to show up without creating glare. The etched pattern is a horizontal garland of small leaves interrupted by vertical dots, usually three of them. I am sure this is a common pattern. I see it periodically and usually purchase it when I do. I've acquired quite a bit and would like to know what it is. I’ve seen it listed online as well but the pattern is never identified. The glass or crystal is thin and delicate. Possibly depression era?
Thank you all so much for any help. Much appreciated!
Vint

This is going to sound a bit harsh so I will say sorry right off the bat. Your stems are not etched, they are copper wheel cut (etching patterns are done with acid) & literally 30-40 companies made this type of generic ladyleg stemware in the 20s through the 40s. If it were acid etched in a pattern it would be at least possible to come close to a manufacturer however common wheel cutting patterns are extremely difficult as most manufacturers simply didn't bother to catalog cuttings only etches plus blanks were purchased by numerous decorating companies then cut & sold by them.  Maybe someone here can get lucky & find a pattern although better pictures are definately a must.

Oh no worries! I am here to learn. The information you provided helps! I am going to look up copper wheel cut stemware so I can learn more about it. Thank you for taking the time to look and reply.

I tried several more times for better photos with no luck. I should be able to get better quality during the day through use of natural light. I hope to post some higher quality photos tomorrow. Thank you all for your help.

Hello - don't think you need worry too much about the quality of your pictures  -  they look very good to me. :)          The pattern can be seen clearly, and you have chosen a sensible background colour.       Photographing clear glass can often present problems, and yours look much better than many that are posted here, so well done.

Vint I'll give you another option. We have a U.S. based glass board which is the equivalent of this board, however its 95% U.S. glass specific production while this board is more geared to wordwide glass production. The URL is http://chataboutdg.com
& you might try it as its the largest of all U.S. glass boards & there are stemware people there.
