Not an ugly swan ?? new Chance find !
« on: September 04, 2015, 05:16:06 PM »
An ugly peacock ? spent a very interesting morning at the Chance exhibition, Smethwick, in the company of numerous ex-workers, the mayoress, the  local newspaper, Henry Chance and wife Sarah not forgetting that world famous author Mr David Encill ! The reason for the odd title is a piece I posted sometime ago which I presumed to be a 'swan' but  one of the display cases contained four 'swans' two of which looked like shorter versions of this, see picture, I also took a plate I've had for sometime and had it confirmed to be made by Chance by one of the old workers, good day all round  ;D ;D

"World Famous"?  :-X

The plate I saw and I was most impressed. With Tony Cartright there (the former Fiesta sales manager) it was possible to ascertain that this particular transfer was a trial (although why it was boxed is strange), and so, presumably, very few now exist. The transfer was originally intended for pottery and the brown colour seen here, would normally be red on ceramics. This is why Chance would always need transfers made specifically for glass when red was used.

Details of the exhibition can be seen here - it is open until the 26th September.
