Salzburger Cristallglas Hanging Wine Decanter on metal stand
« on: November 03, 2024, 07:14:55 PM »
I picked this up yesterday in a charity shop, as I thought it was such an unusual thing, and I'm not familiar with the label it carries, so it had to come home with me!  It's approx 16" tall (40cm) and the glass vessel stands in the metal frame. The needle point at the bottom of the glass vessel slides up inside so as to dispense liquid.

Apparently Salzburger Cristallglas in Austria was operational from c.1954 (source: Millers Glass fact file a-z, Ivo Haanstra). I have found similar items listed for sale online with suggested dates of c. 1970s, albeit with various different styles of stand, and some with apparently older design labels. Looking at the label on mine I thought it might date from around the 1980s.

What I've not managed to find out is any more about Salzburger Cristallglas themselves. There are no other mentions of Salzburger anywhere on the Board, which is unusual. I did find an entry in German on a Wiki site, which Google translated as below:

Salzburger Cristallglas Ges.mbH is a no longer existing company in the city of Salzburg.

Story
The company was located in the Alpensiedlung on Jakob-Auer-Straße .

In 1957, the company received a gold medal for the second time within a few years for a service exhibited at the largest exhibition of European decorative arts in Milan in northern Italy , the "XI. Triennale 1957".

Friedrich Kreibich worked at Cristallglas until his retirement in 1973, where his artistic designs were highly valued.

In 1985, there were several newspaper advertisements indicating a total sale.

And more about Friedrich Kreibich from another page on the same Wiki site

Friedrich Kreibich (* 15 July 1908 in Steinschönau in Northern Bohemia ; † 14 November 1988 in the city of Salzburg) was a glass artist active in Salzburg.

Life
After studying glass in his home country, he worked in an art glass factory in the Bohemian Forest. In 1931 he moved to the Tyrolean glassworks in Kramsach . Other professional stops included the glass island of Murano in the Venice lagoon and another job in Tyrol. He then came to the city of Salzburg , where he was a highly valued employee at Salzburger Cristallglas Ges.mbH until his retirement in 1973 .

Friedrich Kreibich was married to Maria Kreibich (* 14 July 1910 ) since 1936. Together they had two sons

In 1988, Friedrich Kreibich celebrated his 80th birthday in Salzburg; he died in the autumn.

Can anyone tell me more about this maker please?
