Topic: caithness paperweight, but which one?

Hi this is a CIIG  marked weight, which makes it a second, no other marks on it. can anyone tell me the name of it please. It has what looks like a crab in the bottom.

Looks like sea crab. 1974/5. Colin Terris. The engraving is an addition to the pattern as it is a second. The original design doesn't have it.

Hi!

I'm intrigued by the engraving.  I have a CIIG weight (Moonflower) that has been engraved in exactly the same way.  Was this a way of marking a second (in addition to the rather more subtle CIIG!), or were these weights being used as 'practice' for cutters?  I wondered if segmenting the weight in this fashion might be part of the process of faceting?

Yes, it seems an awful lot of effort unless there is some good reason for it.  I do wonder if it is a 'skill development' exercise - dividing a paperweight into equal segments or something....

I think the clue is Limited edition and what to do with the 'seconds' a thread somewhere with a dragonfly weight of mine with an explanation.

Here's my Sea Crab, It has much more going on than the ciig version.

Though, of course, the engraving is not there.
