Grape and Leaf Paperweight
« on: December 04, 2013, 04:09:59 PM »
This is the second of my Paperweights. 8 x 6.5 cm with, as you can see, Grape and Leaf Canes with 'Lattice' underneath. It is Dome shaped. Any idea of age and make. It has a lot of age wear on the base. Thanks
Pete. :-)

Fratelli Toso, nice weight. Not sure about date though, perhaps 50s or 60s.

Hi, my youngest was messing with my UV light and spotted a reaction in this weight. Is it Uranium ? Does it help date the weight more precisely ? Having trouble loading photo's so will add them soon.

It would depend on the reaction

A fair bit of glass from Murano contains a lot of manganese and it gives off a dull green glow under UV.  The reaction is not as bright a green as you see with uranium. If you put a item with uranium next to a piece with a high manganese content and light them with UV the difference is striking.

Photo...I hope.  I did think about the Manganese but the glow is as bright as the Uranium Trinket set I have listed. You are probably right but it does seem unusual to me, The pictures finally loaded. See what you think. Thanks John

Pete, I see very little UV reaction in those images. Had it been uranium glass, then even with a small battery powered uv lamp there would have been an obvious yellow-green glow in at least one part of the clear dome.

Thanks for the help guys. Appreciated as always. Me clutching at straws again....no idea why as it would not make a difference to the weight. ;D I am listing this weight soon.
