Topic: Blue and white vase signed - ID = Mtarfa

Hello everyone,

I have a few glass items in my collection that I have never been able to identify. I have left a post re: what would appear to be a Murano Sommerso centrepiece. This next item which I would like to inquire about is a small (20.5 cm tall) blue vase with white inside. It is fairly heavy and signed on the bottom.

Does anyone know who this is by? (I can't quite make out the signature). It was purchased in Australia.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome! 
I don't recognise the piece specifically, but the mark looks a bit like the mark for Mtarfa, but upside-down.
The appearance of the work is not inconsistent with their output, but you say it was bought in Australia.
Mtarfa is from Malta, I don't know what the liklihood of Mtarfa turning up in Australia is, although glass does travel a lot.
There are a multitude of Australian artists whose names and work I do not yet have the pleasure of being familiar with. It could be something more local.

coincidently, I acquired that exact same vase this week Chris, also as signed. small world

I have one too, (of the wide bottomed pot vases in that blue/green colourway).
Mine was a christmas pressie from Christine and all the more precious for that.  It is unmarked.

It's a silly looking mark - very easy to get it upside-down, it doesn't look any more legible. It just has features I've learned to recognise.
