Could this be a Clichy paperweight? ID = Pairpoint
« on: March 01, 2014, 07:08:27 PM »
Hello Everyone,
Just received this paperweight, and was wondering if it could be a Clichy?
Has 4 pink roses in the center, with Stars and Yellow roses around the edges.
It looks like the stars were meant to be extended, looking like shooting stars.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards,
Javier

No, it isn't a Clichy. What's the base look like? Flat? Polished clear?

Thank you for the photo. Do paperweights need to have this rose to be considered Clichy?

Nope. Many Clichy weights do not have a Clichy rose. But, it makes identification easier when a weight does.

Bravo! Agreed to mildawg, Pairpoint made  these shard rose canes... total coincidence, as I am currently trying to find out about a small facetted weight, with five of the roses in the center, and waiting for an answer, as it has a signature COS scratched into the ground base concavity. As I understand so far, Pairpoint made paperweights from the beginning (firm followed/continued from  Mount Washington!) until the late 1970ies- all the Dates have to be confirmed... The roses seem to be post WW II, most likely from the 1970ies, although the weights have a "antique" appearance, without the attempt of "copying" something else.

Occasionally an example with millefiori appears on Ebay, millefiori seems always sort of pale and sparsely used.

I contacted Ed Poore (who worked at Pairpoint  some  time ago) maybe he can tell about the times, signature and the roses!
NB Pairpoint is /was in Sagamore, Massachusetts, and made swirl weights and newel Posts with controlled bubbles to a bigger extent (most early are of this type), Kind regards,Erhard

Please see http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,55952.msg317100.html#msg317100 which has been created as new thread for Erhard's important discovery regarding the "COS" signature.
