Blue vase with petrol lustre,bronze????
« on: March 30, 2014, 02:20:26 PM »
Hi all, have to thank my mum for this one as i found it on the way to visit her,it's about 4" high with a petrol film type surface that is very difficult to photo so you might have to take my word for it,it's strong on one side and fading around the other. It's the base that 's interesting and maybe i was expecting a polished pontil, but this is pushed up with scars running in a faint 2" circle around the base,2" pontil rod???,any ideas on this one many thanks.

not my area, but I'll do the head on the block bit to encourage the right people to have a look.

my opinion is that the base of this doesn't have the usual look of something that's been on the end of a pontil rod - although I'm aware that some Continental practices do leave only a circular mark rather than a solid scar.
In view of the shape of this item, then obviously it hasn't been press moulded, so if a pontil rod wasn't used then this may well mean a mould blown piece.

Your petrol lustre makes this look more akin to carnival glass, with the effect being achieved by salts sprayed whilst the glass is hot, thus creating the iridised look.
I was wondering if in fact the marks/damage to the base have been caused whilst the object was in a hot oven/kiln being sprayed with salts.
I'm not aware of 2 inch pontil rods  -  might tend to make the arm ache somewhat ;D

now let us have the right answers from someone. :)

P.S.     possibly too 'blue' for T/Webbs bronze??  -  Somehow I don't think it has that sort of age.

Yup agree not Webb,i wonder if it's those dastardly Chinese again ;D,you can see little brown bits following the circle on this one and the other is blurred but the only way to show the surface.

I have a bowl this colour which has a label saying it's made in Mexico.
It's a beautiful colour.
