Unknown signed and dated studio bowl. ID = Karen Lawrence

Hi Guys, any help greatly appreciated with this beautiful bowl.

5" tall with flat but not polished base. It is quite dark glass which light struggles to get through but if put under a strong light the wonderful colours really show, see pic 3.

It is signed on the edge of the base with 2 words of which I think the first one begins with K and the date 1987.

TIA Wolfie

Good grief - I was googling "Ken Levine" (and not getting very far).

but I did find this rather lovely site on Australian glass.

I have updated the thread title with Karen as the the maker, but left other details out.

From the resume on Karen's current website, 1978 (the date on this vase) would suggest it was made while Karen was in France, at Sars Poteries, and was a university teaching assistant to Peter Layton & Edward Liebovitz.

I can certainly see a strong influence from her fabby work in Peter Layton's.
I can just about make out the outlines of fish swimming around in your bowl, Wolfie. (With a little imagination - it's like a diving around coral reefs, underwater view.)
It is stunning.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)
