my ysart weight came today

just got this one this morning, measures just under 3" across only just by mm's and 2.25" high, my guess around the 1930's but made by which ysart? it's very well set

Reminds me of the Vasart ink-bottles

I have two weights with the two-tone striped ground. One is red and grey (same as in yours Ray where the red is lined with dark grey). The other is white and green. One has a flat, polished base (fire polished I guess). The other is well finished but with a small, rough area to the centre.

My red and grey one is not so good in the cane setting.

I have seen another example with this pattern in which the cane set up is very well formed and the weight is bigger than any of these others.

The striping was no doubt formed in the regular 20-rib dip mould as used for the general glassware.

These weights are all placed in the Salvador Ysart category. All examples I have seen have canes that fit with the early Vasart days - and none show canes that I have yet found in Paul's work.

Date could be 1930s but could also be 1st period Vasart - I have still not found any evidence to say which dating would be most likely.

the stripe's on mine are red and illuminious style green/yellow

and the base has a neat small ground pontil mark

You will not find any Monart with that yellow so it is most likely Ysart Bros. (Assuming that base shot is a good colour match?)
