Bowl marked Glass Works 1984. ID = Glassworks studio, Edinburgh
« on: September 29, 2014, 01:08:00 PM »
Hi everyone, help with identification of maker needed please. I have an amethyst coloured fruit bowl with blue on the external rim and ribbon trailing on the underside of the bowl. It is marked on the base Glass Works 1984. So far I have been unable to identify the maker. Can anyone help?
Thanks in anticipation.

Welcome to the GMB.  :)

I can't really offer much help, but it does look like studio glass, possibly British, so knowing those glassworks in operation around 1984 is a sure-fire starting point.

Similar pieces have been on the board previously.

Glassworks, was previously based in Edinburgh, until its closure, a small studio run by Jenny Antonio and latterly Paul Musgrove.

Just thought I would add this for anyone interested. I emailed Paul Musgrove regarding this bowl and he very kindly replied with the following information:
"You have indeed a piece that was made by the Glassworks in 1984. This was a production piece made in a number of colour ways at the time.
Think if I remember rightly it retailed for around £50 maybe a bit less. It is a long time ago! Anyhow, definitely made by me along with assistants, Graham Muir and Rab Ward.
They were with me right up to the end in 1990 or so. When this was made we were based in our original studio in Holyrood Road in the Old Town of Edinburgh.
Was a blown bowl with pick up colour, the clear trail was applied to the outside during the hot process and the blue rim applied before it was opened up into a bowl".
