Two Barlolac cherries?
« on: October 12, 2014, 08:48:03 AM »
The frosted one is 18 cms, the clear one 22.  The clear one has a definite yellowish tint. Both have the 'birdbath' foot.
The question is, has there always been a 22 cm one, or is it a recent addition to the range?

regret that I'm ignorant regarding the actual dates of Rosice production, so can only give some limited information on this question, much of which I've taken from Marcus Newhall's Book (see below).
Looking at the 'Extract of "Barolac" - in the Rosice catalogue on the Sko Union CD data base, this vase design is shown on page 7 and has the pattern No. 12111.          Sizes given are 140, 180 and 220, so on the face of it 22 cm. appears not to be a new addition, but whether this means it has as long a lifespan as the other two sizes I've no idea I'm afraid.

Looking at the Sklo Union Book ('Art Before Industry: 20th Century Czech Pressed Glass'), the factory appears to have had a very chequered history, eventually being incorporated into Sklo Union in 1965 under the name of Rosice  -  although it looks like they ceased entirely around 1996.
It's possible that this item was made for a longish time, at least possibly from around the mid 1950's when 'the factory started to produce many new designs".

Sorry this doesn't give the answer to your question, but nice pieces  -  do hope that I haven't got too much of this wrong  -  there does seem to be some cross-over between Libochovice and Rosice when it comes to Barolac, so not entirely clear as to specifics.

Am sure you have the CD catalogue for the Sklo Union factories, so you probably know all of this anyway :)

Anne says here made in three sizes inc 22cm
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,33218.msg179953.html#msg179953

'Isn't this Rosice pattern 12111 (Barolac Cherries), made in 3 sizes: 14cm, 18cm, 22cm... shown in the PDF catalogues of the Marcus Newhall / Sklo Union Art Before Industry CD for 1987 and 1992?'
Don't know if knowing the CD date helps though
