Jane Webster, engraver has died

(1/1)

nigel benson:
Hello everyone,

I have just received an email telling me the sad news that the glass engraver, Jane Webster, has died.

I 'met' her after I found a group of framed images that she executed for clients prior to them agreeing the piece. She was a very interesting and witty lady who liked things to be just so. Perhaps a little old fashioned by todays standards, given that she disliked computers in particular. I sent my drafts of an article I wrote about her, and the images that I had found, for her corrections and to see if anything was inaccurate. Within I had asked her to state when she was born. Her reply was to annotate the margin with a comment - "A gentleman never asks a lady her age!". I think that, and her comment that she hoped that I wouldn't split any infinitives, sort of summed her up. A very pleasant and endearing lady who liked things just so.

As I still can't work out how to put an image on GMB, please have a look here for an image of one of the drawings:
