I showed photos of three pieces of moulded glass each bearing the RD number 739548 plus the legend ELIZABETHAN. This RD number was registered by Young & Hodgson Ltd. on 30 July 1928.

I enquired about a cut glass, thistle-shaped, footed vase with ruffled rim, a ground and polished pontil, and Reg No. 711903 etched on the base. (Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos at the time). It turns out that RD 711903 was one of three designs (711901, 711902, and 711903) all registered on 23 March 1925 by Young and Hodgson Ltd.

Now I have some photos of a heavy cut glass ‘thistle-shaped’ water jug & four matching glasses.

The jug measures 8 ½ inches (215mm) from the tip of the spout to widest point of the handle, stands 6½ inches (165mm) tall, and has the acid etched Rd. No. 728310 just under the base of the handle. The four thistle shaped glasses are all 3½  inches (90mm) tall and 3inches (77mm). The base of the jug is star cut, whereas the base of each glass is ground and polished flat.

RD 728310 was registered by Young & Hodgson Ltd. on 28 March 1927.

(Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by artytart13).

Young & Hodgson were listed as ‘Glass and China Merchants’  at l Britannia Street, King's Cross, London, England  in the ‘Marconi International Directory of Cable Addresses: Buyers' ...’ for 1922.

In 1925, Young & Hodgson, Ltd., York House, 140-142, King's Cross Road, London, W.C.1., were listed as members of the Society of Glass Technology.

Does anyone have any more information about Young & Hodgson Ltd., please?  If they were members of the Society of Glass Technology in 1925, were they still merely retailers, or had they branched out into glassware manufacturer, or perhaps as agents, importers, whatever for other manufacturers?

Does anyone have any more photos to show of pieces from designs registered by Young & Hodgson Ltd., please?

Fred.
