Pomegrenate origin?
« on: December 05, 2014, 01:56:53 PM »
These pomegrenates in seedy dark red glass with amber non-seedy trim (leaf, stem, navel) are seen more and more on markets around here.  The one I picked up today had some beads attached, don't know why.
The pomegrenate is the official symbol of Armenia, and they seem to make a lot of similar items there. Just not these ones, it seems. Quality of workmanship is adequate, colours are attractive.

Does anyone have any idea who makes these? India perhaps?

Hi Ivo,
here in Greece I see lots of these, they are sold as "gouri", a good luck symbol that is given as a present for the new year. They always have some beads or other things attached. For the glass I am not sure where it comes from. I do not think it is made here, rather the guri is only "assembled in Greece". For most imported things here come from China, I would think of it as a possible county of origin.

PS.: I also saw some "Armenian" glass pomegranates in an Armenian online store on the net, but actually they are Chinese too, as their photo was taken directly from the big known Chinese site advertising Chinese products...

If one had a notion to hang decorative baubles on trees, this would be an attractive and unusual one to use.  ;D
