Black Vase Painted in Silver
« on: December 06, 2014, 07:40:05 AM »
Hi, maybe someone knows where this vase comes from and/or how old it is? It is 18 cm high and is made of violet glass, but it looks like it is black. It is painted in some silver coloured enamel. Thank you in advance for any help!

Probably 90% of these are Czech...usually marked on the bottom "Czechoslovakia" but I knew one unscrupulous dealer that had a chemical solution & always removed the marking because he said this type of thin silver overlay solution marked Czech stuff doesn't sell well here in the U.S. but am slightly suprised yours is not marked. Sorry not able to help other than that.

Thank you, Ohio! Yes, there is no mark and I do not think there has been removed one. As to age, what do you think? It looks a bit like 1930s to me??? There is extensive wear on the base.

It may be Murano.  My mother brought back a beaker with a silver St Marks facade on itsometime in the early 70s.

Maybe this will help a little as its a completed auction. Its black amethyst & has a floral overlay although not the same shape or pattern as yours, but its a common theme of these late 20s to early 30s vases as an example.
