Mdina signed vase? ID = Mdina
« on: January 20, 2015, 03:32:49 PM »
I found this very nice small (3" x 3") vase a few days ago, was expecting just to find Mdina on the base but seems to have a signature which I read as Moluo g or Meluo g with an accent on the u.

Does anyone recognise this name?

Thanks
Nick

It's sloppy Mdina as Rose says but the squiggle may be intended to be a date.

Hmm thanks yes I suppose it could just have been engraved in a hurry, but it's a pretty poor Mdina.
If I didn't know it was Mdina I'd never have read it as such. I was thinking it may have been one of the glass blowers signature.

It is a commonly found execution of the word Mdina. One of the two scripts which appear to read "Molina" more than Mdina.
The name of the design is Crystal blue stripe, it was originally designed by Michael Harris and is still produced today.

Thanks again, it does sit quite nicely with my group of Vasart miniatures and other more unusual (to me) small Mdina vase.
