Two Jiri Suhajek vases
« on: January 02, 2015, 03:52:08 PM »
Two additions to my small Suhajek collection, both designed for Moser / Karlovarske Sklo.

- massive vase with "abstract flower" decor, 18 cm tall, from around 1975. One of my favourite Suhajek designs, so glad I finally found one I could afford ;D
Different to others I have seen from this range as the shape isn't flat but round, and the base colour is blue instead of colourless.
CGR shows several examples from this range with different pattern numbers...

- big cylinder vase with red and blue threading decor, diameter 15 cm, just short of 20 cm tall. A range not commonly seen I think.
Similar pieces shown in CGR 1974/4 as an outcome of the "hot glass symposia 1973" held at Skrdlovice and Karlovy Vary >> Link.
And featured again in >> CGR 1976/13
I wonder if the applied "I" and "S" decor on my vase are just accidental, or the initials of Jiri Suhajek?
And unusual for Moser, it has an oval polished pontil mark to the base.

Thanks for looking,
Michael

Wonderful!  I especially like the first.

Your latest finds are really super -- in case you've run out of room, you can always display some of your best pieces on my shelves.  I won't even charge you rent...  I'm that nice.  :P

You're more than nice, Anik.
But it's too late anyway, I have run out of room ages ago. ;D

I always loved the abstract flower design, so I am very happy about the first vase (was a Xmas present btw; well, I had found it myself, but didn't have to pay for it).

That first one should have been mine.  :'(
I've been after one of those for years and years!

Well done, Michael. I'm still able to be happy for you (finally) getting hold of one. ;D
I can empathise with having wanted one for a long, long time. ;)

Thank you Sue -- like you, I had been after one of those for years, too ;)

It was far from cheap btw, but still only a fraction of the prize sellers ask for it usually...

;) I should have bitten the bullet the first time I saw one, but it was a very long time ago and I didn't know who Jiri Suhajek was then. I didn't know who anybody was then. I just fell for it, in a very big way. ;D

And last Saturday I found a matching vase to the blue/red one (smaller with green threading) :)
