Hi everybody, having seen those weights, specially Alan´s wonderful examples, and read his Northern Europe Suggestion, I would like to suggest some Connections as a working hypothesis:
The Nocus factory in France (Mr Nocus was the owner: the factory is better known under Saint Mande, the place's name) went bankrupt and closed, and their millefiori specialist Charles Bredghem left France and went to Nuutarjärvi Glass factory (founded 1793 and still working) in Finland -
so are there any examples from Finland to confirm some early Finnish millefiori- made by Bredghem? Maybe yes: in 2005 an Exhibition was arranged and Charles Bredghem was mentioned in context with "venezian style glass, filigree and millefiori"! (text unfortunately in Finnish and Swedish)...brought along by Google (tm) search of "Bredghem millefiori"...
http://www.nba.fi/fi/kansallismuseo/tiedotusvalineille/tiedotearkisto and scroll down to the year 2005,
I hope it is worth a try and someone could find some other Finnish Millefiori, as some of the canes and layouts are reminding of Saint Mande's style, albeit in altered versions.. Kind regards Erhard
