Art Deco? Fruit Bowl Green Pressed Glass
« on: January 11, 2015, 06:45:27 PM »
I'm assuming the fruit bowl below is Art Deco. Just wondered if it was English or possibly Bohemian? Any answers gratefully received!

hello Sue  -  welcome to the GMB :)

regret to say that unless someone recognizes this specific shape/design, then it will probably remain unidentified.
To me the colour suggests modern production, and could be from almost anywhere.

There are elements of the design that have some similarity to the deco style - 1920's to about 1940 - but despite that it may well be of much more recent production.............  if you learn nothing else in the world of glass, it's that copying is a great pastime.            Evidence of wear, or not, can be important  -  if something's been around since 1930 and used, then it's likely to show noticeable wear on the base/foot.

you might try using word combinations on the internet that include 'deco style' - 'deco glass' - 'deco glass bowls' for example...........   should give you much to read and learn about glass from that period, and you might also use the Boards search facility using the same terms - am sure there have been acres of references to deco style.

It's usual practice here to provide dimensions of glass ......  height, width etc. and a picture of the underside can be helpful.

just possible that someone might recognize your bowl. :)

The pale green tint looks like it may have been made with recycled glass, if so modern and perhaps made in Spain.

The design itself is reminiscent of a bowl from Humpilla and another made by Ravenhead.
