A really interesting plate. The signature looks sandblasted. I have never seen a sandblasted signature of J. Beranek from Austria, but even the accent is in the right place, confusing.... The charger cutting and scale, looks plausibly 1970's Czech. Bevacause I have never seen a Beranek signature acid etched, I am very cautious and would not commit, but the similarity looks worth mentioning at least. His normal sigature is just scratched on the base of his pieces, but maybe for a bespoke piece, that advertised his signature, maybe he would have put more effort into making the signature decorative. He certainly made some limited edition pieces with Lobmeyr and other places. He left the Czech Republic with a famous master cutter and they both went to Austria....... so it may not be that crazy an idea. If evidence to the contrary is found, I am happy to be totally shot down on this hypothesis!!!!!!!!!
